This product is a one-of-a-kind item, made from a single kimono (Oshima pongee).

Oshima pongee is one of the three major textiles in the world, and is produced mainly in Amami Oshima (the main island) in Kagoshima Prefecture.
In ancient times, when the Edo Shogunate imposed a ban on kimono, the islanders hid their beloved kimono in the mud fields and found that they were beautifully dyed, which is said to be the origin of mud dyeing.

The hat is made by hand, stitch by stitch.

We make hats by dry cleaning kimonos, carefully untying the threads, pressing them with steam to make a single piece of fabric, then cutting and sewing each piece one by one while considering the layout (the way the pattern appears).
All products are handmade by an artisan in Japan.
